Free Grants Information Sessions
This August, Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) will host 8 free grants information sessions across the borough. RSVP here to learn more about our 2017 BAC Community Arts Grants and how to prepare your applications. These seminars are great opportunities to introduce yourself to BAC staff and to meet your fellow artists and arts leaders.

News
Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams’ Third Annual International Day of Friendship is August 7th! Join BAC for a full day of incredible folk and traditional arts performances at Brooklyn Borough Hall.
BAC Grantee Genspace is offering a Biotextiles course this August. Participants will work hands-on in the lab to grow individual textile samples, then learn how to print and dye them with bioengineered and naturally colored bacteria.
BAC Grantee Angelina Dreem, founder of Powrplnt, has been named one of five female curators to watch in New York City over at Amuse.

Congratulations to BAC Grantee The Invisible Dog Art Center on officially becoming a fully incorporated 501c3 nonprofit organization! The center’s ground floor is used for exhibitions, performances and public events, featuring artists and curators from New York and around the world.

Open Calls
Faena Art in Buenos Aires is open for submissions for the Faena Prize. Artists are invited to propose installations, performances, paintings, sculptures, photographs, design and architecture, and film or video pieces. The winning project will be presented at Faena Art Center Buenos Aires with the possibility of being adapted for Faena Forum Miami Beach.
Deadline: August 10, 2016
Rhizome will award net art microgrants ranging from $500 to $1500 to fund the creation of new artworks or online exhibitions. Special emphasis will be given to projects that fall in these categories of experimental narrative, work by New York-based artists, and new browser-based works or a series of curated works for front page exhibition on Rhizome.org.

Trestle Gallery | Trestle Projects is accepting applications for a Curator-in-Residence (CIR) during the 2016-2017 exhibition season. The CIR program aims to facilitate events and exhibitions that activate the community while encouraging artists and curators to challenge themselves and viewers.

The RISD Museum is pleased to offer an artist fellowship for 2017. One selected artist will receive a stipend of $10,000, professional development support, and the opportunity to work closely with the Museum’s collections and staff members to realize a proposed project.

Printed Matter has announced an open call for submissions to their second Emerging Artists Publication Series. Four artists’ books will be selected by Printed Matter and guest jurors Brendan Dugan and Sara Greenberger Rafferty to be published under the organization’s imprint in 2017.

The Aesthetica Art Prize 2016 is open for entries. Now in its 10th year, the Prize presents an opportunity for emerging and established artists to showcase their work to new international audiences and further their engagement in the art world.

Smack Mellon is now accepting proposals from emerging curators for the Emerging Artists Summer Exhibition. Curators will be provided with a stipend and a budget for artists’ stipends as well as audio and visual equipment and technical support for installing complex projects.

The ABOG Fellowship for Socially Engaged Art is a year-long relationship for socially engaged artists and artist collectives working nationwide. Fellows receive project support of $20,000 with strategic assistance, field research tools, video documentation, and other tailored resources.

Residencies
The Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD) is offering a Studio Practice Residency for non-student working artists to develop, refine, or challenge their artistic practice. The residency is a studio-intensive mentorship program held at the AICAD facility and led by visual artist and critic William Powhida.
Deadline: August 20, 2016
The MAD Artist Studios Program hosts artists and designers daily as they produce work in a live open studio environment. Museum visitors are invited to ask questions and discuss processes, materials and concepts. Artists and designers are assigned a studio for one day per week; they also benefit from professional development opportunities and are compensated for their time.

The Lanesboro Residency Program provides an opportunity for emerging artists to create new work and explore new ideas while utilizing an entire rural community and its myriad of assets as a catalytic vehicle for engagement and artistic experimentation. Emerging artists interested in place-based work, or work that is created for the local community are encouraged to apply.

Holes in the Wall Collective is accepting applications for creative residencies on 29 acres of woods, fields, and vegetable gardens in New Jerusalem, PA. Upcoming themed residency weeks invite creatives across disciplines to engage in conversations while creating new work. Upcoming themes: Democracy, Tomorrow, and Black & White.

Looking for a rehearsal space in the East New York area? Morning and mid-afternoon hours are available at $25/hr at ARTs East New York.
Youth
Applications are now open for the YoungArts 2017 program. Artists ages 15-18 (or in grades 10-12) across the literary, performing, visual and design fields are encouraged to apply to earn up to $10,000 in cash awards and have an opportunity to participate in National YoungArts Week and/or regional programs in Miami, New York or Los Angeles.

East New York artists! BRIC Arts Media will present free media classes at the New Lots Library throughout August and September. Courses will offer introductory training in video arts, oral history and archiving, digital photography, and recording your poetry.
Roots Artist Registry, a new online registry and directory of visual, performing, and literary artists, connects artists with opportunities to show their art, sell their work or service, and collaborate with other artists.
